Preservation Hall During Six Of Saturns In 3 Keys At Ace Hotel New Orleans

Dear Friends, kindly join us tomorrow Thursday, May 4th at 3 KEYS at Ace Hotel for a number of presentations and celebrations at Six of Saturns.

"Live at Preservation Hall: Louisiana Fairytale" - A film by Danny Clinch

3:00pm: Doors Open  |  3:30pm:  Film Screening

For fifty years the Preservation Hall Jazz Band has played to keep the traditions of New Orleans jazz alive, both at home and on tour around the world. Along the way, they have brought in collaborators of all musical stripes to play, honor, and reinterpret America's first true art form. "Louisiana Fairytale" documents their collaboration with American rock band My Morning Jacket, showing a legendary group of New Orleans musicians passing on traditions and inspiring a new generation. The film features an intimate performance by both bands in the French Quarter's historic Preservation Hall. Starring the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and My Morning Jacket, plus more.

5:00pm: New Orleans Griots: A Storytelling Session featuring Preservation All-Stars

There is no audition process to end up playing at Preservation Hall.  In a myriad of ways, you just end up here.  Each performer is connected to legacy that was left before them, either by bloodline, a mentorship, as a replacement, or by a casual sit-in that never ended…but all are and were united by the sheer power of Tradition. Join members of the greater Preservation Hall Musical Collective for an afternoon session of music and storytelling as they answer the question – “How Did I End up Here?”

6:00pm: DJ Riviera Slim & DJ Blk in the Lobby Bar

9:00pm: Sister Gertrude Morgan, 'Let's Make A Record' with King Britt & Friends + Record Release

Preservation Hall’s Ben Jaffe and Philly DJ King Britt reimagined Let’s Make a Record, the lost recordings of Alabama-born street preacher, gospel singer, painter and soothsayer Sister Gertrude Morgan. The cycle of ten songs that is King Britt presents Sister Gertrude Morgan mixes gospel hymns with funk and soul melodies as well as Britt's deep percussive beats, all backing Sister Gertrude’s haunting vocals.

On May 4, King Britt and the original band come together to showcase their reinterpretation of Sister G’s Let’s Make a Record, songs of inflated spirit and deep, abiding faith -- for one night only.

Britt will be joined by album co-producer and guitarist Tim Motzer who has collaborated with British singer-songwriter David Sylvian and in the ongoing Secret Rhythms project comprising electronica/dub luminary Burnt Friedman and ex-Can drummer Jaki Liebezeit.

In conjunction with Vinyl Me, Please, the Preservation Hall Foundation, DJ and producer King Britt and Ropeadope Records, announced its first-ever album release: a double LP  featuring Morgan's 1969 recording Let's Make An Album along with 2004's re-imagination of that album King Britt Presents Sister Gertrude Morgan. Get your copy at the show and at Ace Hotel for a limited time.
