2017 Class Got Brass Competition

2017 Class Got Brass Competition

The Preservation Hall Foundation and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation are once again are proud to sponsor the annual Class Got Brass competition for Louisiana high school and middle school brass bands. The competition awards more than $30,000 worth of instruments to the winning music programs.

Applications are being accepted now through March 5 in anticipation for the contest taking place on Sunday, March 19, in conjunction with the Congo Square New World Rhythms Festival.

The Preservation Hall Foundation has provided a FREE digital resource, called The Brass Bandbook, with instructional materials including sheet music to download, with arrangements for all brass band instruments: trumpet, trombone, clarinet, saxophone, tuba, bass drum and snare drum. There is also classic recordings demonstrating the proper tone and style.

In addition, for band directors who want personal instruction for their students, the Preservation Hall Foundation will send members of its world-famous collective to conduct clinics at schools that have entered the Class Got Brass competition — at no charge to the school. To request a clinic for your school band, email programs@jazzandheritage.org.
